Signs of Spring are appearing everywhere. We’re looking forward to it. We’ve managed to get through the winter months and are excited about the business, including both the Eatery and all the Catering events planned for this year. If you’ve got an event that you’d like to talk with us about please don’t hesitate. We do both Onsite Events here in our space as well as Offsite Events. We’ve worked up a revised Catering Menu for 2016. We invite you to look over it and check out our offerings. Not only do we serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner but we can also cater any of them. We try and update things in the Winter. When we can think back over the busier season to certain items and realize “I never liked making those damn things.” Or “Did anybody ever order those? Yeah I didn’t think so. Let’s ditch them.” But of course there are also moments of “I had the most delicious thing the other night, let’s figure out how we can do it too!” After all, it helps for us to be excited about it too!
We also had a Staff Brunch a few weeks ago on a warm sunny Sunday. Maybe one day we’ll be open on Sundays (we do Cater events but the Eatery is closed), but for now it’s the one day that we all know we’ll have to ourselves. And that really means a lot. This one day we decided to have fun together. We sampled a bag of Barkley’s Mill Heirloom Grits from Weaverville. We had Chilaquiles with Chorizo, Tortillas and a delicious Enchilada sauce, roasted Potatoes & Poblanos, Blueberry Coffee Cake, Coconut Marshmellow Treats and other tasty treats. Also, NOW is the time to start booking any Weddings, Anniversaries, Family Reunions and such for the upcoming year. Believe it or not there are already a few weekends that are quite full. Valentine’s Day is on the horizon. We’re working up a real nice menu for Saturday, the 13th. It’ll be something easy for you take home and reheat. Any requests?
THANKSGIVING 2015 Many of you have called and asked about Thanksgiving this year. The answer is YES! We are preparing a Thanksgiving meal that will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, Nov 25th. We are working on the menu offerings now. If you have any requests or suggestions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We all have a lot of experience with this meal and are very excited to continue this tradition. We’ll release the menu in the next few weeks and will be ready to start taking orders!

Below is a platter we did for our friends at Noble Cider. They’ve just opened a brand new tasting room and are expanding their operation. Congrats to Trevor and JoAnna!
Oh, and this Ploughman’s type of lunch platter isn’t really on our catering menu. We have a very nice Local Artisan Cheese platter already, but this is a step up and heartier with cured meats, pickles, chutneys, breads (not pictured) and other condiments. They sure enjoyed it. In fact, they enjoyed it so much that they suggested we add it to our menu. Not a bad idea!
Our BIG week for Penland
Ever cooked for 540 people? Well, we just did. Two days in a row! And for the most part things went relatively smooth. Admittingly any event in the neighborhood of 500 just about maxes us out. Storage and refrigeration are the biggest hurdles for us to overcome. The Penland School of Crafts annual auction occurs every August and we were excited to cook for them this year. This was a big fundraising event for them so of course they wanted things to be “just right” for their ticket holders. We rallied our staff, kept them highly caffeinated and then prepped and chopped and cooked ’til we got it all done. The menus this year were full of tasty summer delights. We served slow cooked brisket with peach salsa, blue cheese slaw, local lettuce salad and warm apple crisp with caramel drizzle. Hungry yet? That was just Friday’s dinner. Saturday we grilled Ahi Tuna & radicchio with arugula & oranges. We also served chicken nicoise, fingerling potato salad with herb dijonaisse, crisp sugar snap peas, watermelon with blackberries and fresh mint all followed by fruit hand pies with whipped cream. We wanted to remind you that we will be closed on July 4th (enjoying our own family and friend parities) but HAVE NO FEAR, you can stop by today until 6pm to get your favorite salads, meals, and treats to either eat in or take home. Many of our items would be perfect for your weekend parties! We’ll have our famous baked and fried chicken strips, pasta salads, sweet potato salad, chicken salad, cupcakes, etc in our case today ready for you to pack in our to go boxes.

We have started a new venture in the same wonderful sunlit space that we all love. It is called “67 Biltmore Downtown Eatery & Catering.” 67 Biltmore featured in Mountain Xpress / The name is simple and accessible. It is a nod to the building that we already have a history with and one that this community loves. This space holds a lot of meaning for our family. Not only did we get to do a lot of great work with Laurey (and Laurey’s) in this building, but many other incredible things have happened here as well. The space housed a pancake fundraiser for our family while Henry was receiving medical care at Duke. We still have a few Asheville Loves Henry t-shirts! It’s the same space where we hosted a Be The Match bone marrow drive to add potential donors to the registry. Maybe one of those donors will go on to save a child’s life just like someone did for Henry? All the more reason we should probably host another one. We also enjoyed a small family reunion here last summer for Emily’s birthday. There have been numerous performances, weddings, anniversaries and many other celebrations in this space. Even simple things like French groups, writing groups or even small business networking groups have met weekly in our space. You name it, we’ve hosted it here. We’d like to host more. And more. And more. Emily, Kate (Catering Director), and Lori (our new addition to the office team) have some great ideas for how to do this.
As for the front eatery…we’ll keep our easy and friendly counter service. We like making things simple up there. We’ll keep that Grab ‘n Go cooler packed with all sorts of quick dinner options. We’ll keep the deli case packed with tasty and unique salads that make eating healthy so effortless. And yes, we’ll keep making Sweet Potato Salad. But we’ll also keep inventing new things too!
Thanks to all of you who have supported us throughout this process. We are excited to be doing business downtown again. We are happy to be back at work with our staff. We work hard and are all genuinely happy when we’re hard at work. It feels good to be back in the flow.
Getting open was a huge task. We still have plenty of things to iron out. We are evaluating old systems and inventing new ones. We put a huge majority of our staff back to work. We are also hiring new folks in the next few weeks. You will see some new faces and we’ll be doing lots of training and fine tuning. We may mess up a little here and there, but we’ll do our best to make things right. How we handle mistakes and mishaps will help set us apart. We encourage our staff to address these things and make sure to cooperate with customers. We will always strive to make things better.
Our catering staff have already worked on some large events during the month of May and we’re set to tackle more this summer. We get to share and help people celebrate some of the most memorable moments in their lives. WOW! How many people get to do that for a living?
